John Neal’s 377,000 ocean miles over 45 years include 30 years of conducting 204 worldwide sail-training expeditions aboard Mahina Tiare, a Hallberg-Rassy 46 detailed on www.mahina.com. He is author, co-author or contributing author of 16 books. John and his wife Amanda annually spend seven months at sea, sailing 10,000 miles. Their seminars incorporate the latest information, techniques and resources.

Amanda Swan Neal’s 335,000 ocean miles include completing the Whitbread Around the World Race as rigger aboard Maiden, two Sydney-Hobart Races and seven Cape Horn roundings. She has worked as a rigger and sailmaker in England, Australia and New Zealand. Additional experience includes coaching women’s international sailing teams and tall ship sail-training. She has instructed aboard Mahina Tiare II & III since 1994 and is author of Diesel Engine Essentials, A Learning and Coloring Book and The Essential Galley Companion plus 125 magazine articles.

 

Nigel Calder is best known for his Boatowner’s Mechanical and Electrical Manual and Marine Diesel Engines, both considered definitive works. In addition to hundreds of magazine articles, he has also authored A Cruising Guide to the Northwest Caribbean’ Cuba: A Cruising Guide, Nigel Calder’s Cruising Handbook: A Compendium for Coastal and Offshore Sailors and How to Read a Nautical Chart. Nigel is currently the Technical Editor or an Associate Editor of PassageMaker, Professional Boatbuilder, Sail, Ocean Navigator and Yachting Monthly magazines and a freelance consultant on marine energy issues. He and his wife, Terrie annually cruise Europe aboard their Malo 46, Nada and have spent the last 36 years cruising and writing about the East Coast of North America, Caribbean, Atlantic, U.K, and Scandinavia.
