In early 2018, Lia Ditton will depart from Tokyo, Japan and endeavor to row 5,500 miles solo and unsupported across the North Pacific to San Francisco. To date, 18 people have attempted this route. Two were successful. Both were men.
Lia is a licensed captain with over 150,000 miles of experience. Now 36, she will speak about her past racing experiences, why she is taking on this challenge and how she is training in the Bay through 2017.
Lia Ditton is a professional sailor and writer, passionate about sharing her extraordinary experiences at sea by translating them into contemporary art installations. The only woman to complete the OSTAR 2005 single-handed transatlantic race, the experience formed the basis of Lia’s 2006 installation, Absolute Solitude: One Woman, One Boat in which Lia lived on her….
