Cruising the California Coast

Cruising San Francisco and Monterey Outer Coast Region can be very challenging and always exciting; even for most experienced sailors.  The natural beauty of this area is breathtaking and wildlife abounds.  There are navigational hazards, high winds, big waves and ocean currents that must be understood and mastered to be safe in his coastal environment.

During the talk, guidance will be provided on anchorages, available harbors (including Pillar Point, Santa Cruz and Monterey), barrier islands and regional weather patterns.  Specialized sails and equipment will be presented.  Safety details and pre-departure training will be reviewed.

The talk will provide examples based on the combined ASA106/106 course offered by Modern Sailing School and Club, as well as typical itineraries for weekend trips to Drake’s Bay and Half Moon Bay.
