British diesel engine innovator, Cox Powertrain, has launched the world’s first 300hp diesel outboard. The CXO300 is the world’s highest-powered diesel outboard engine and is expected to completely shake up the US commercial and recreational boating markets.
As the first company to introduce a completely new line of high powered, high performance and highly durable diesel outboard engines, Cox’s mission from the start was to create an iconic engine brand and deliver a completely new concept in diesel engines that will revolutionise the marine market.
The launch of the CXO300, which has uniquely been built from the ground up for marine use, follows an intense ten-year development programme by Cox. The substantial investment that has gone into developing such a game-changing engine has been made possible thanks to the backing of a solid shareholder base of private and institutional investors. As a result, the company has been able to implement a long-term development programme of its engines, the CXO300 being the company’s entry-level model.
The final engine concept of the CXO300 is based on a 4-stroke, V8 architecture which will offer users higher fuel efficiency, greater range, higher torque and substantial total cost of ownership advantages. It has 100% higher peak torque at the crankshaft than the leading gasoline 300hp outboards, 60% higher when comparing with a leading 350hp, this difference is amplified when looking below the mid-range rpm.
Where traditionally a quad 300hp or triple 350hp installation is needed, a triple CXO300 installation will offer fuel savings at the same cruise speed. The engine offers fuel savings of approximately 25% in comparison to a similar 300hp gasoline outboard therefore allowing boaters to go that much further. The CXO300 is designed to live x2 to x3 longer than current outboard engines and to ease the servicing by allowing a “dry” service every 1000h or once a year, whichever comes sooner.
