Thousands Visit New Boats, Products, Seminars & Events at the

2019 Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show® Celebration of Marine Sports

Richmond, CA – Thousands of boating enthusiasts from across the country attended the 2019 Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show over four days, April 4-7. As the show was closing down on Sunday, crowds stayed on browsing, putting the marine sport lifestyle show into overtime at the Richmond waterfront’s Craneway Pavilion and Marina Bay Yacht Harbor.

In its fourth year in Richmond, over 150 exhibitors packed the 45,000 S.F. exhibit space inside the Craneway Pavilion and the in-water boat showcase at Marina Bay Yacht Harbor, featuring some of the newest boats available this year. Boat show visitors demoed new sail boats and tested innovative marine products and gear, taking advantage of expert advice and great boat show discounts.

Camaraderie among the sailing and boating community was at an all-time high. “It was exciting to welcome such a dedicated and collegial maritime crowd, including our passionate exhibitors and in-water boat display participants, “said Katie Kelly, Sail America Association Manager. “The Bay Area turnout was great and full ferry service next year will make it even easier and more fun for folks to visit the 2020 boat show.”

This sentiment was echoed by Jess Parker Co-founder of 510-Waterline Stand Up Paddle, “I felt really connected with the exhibitors this year! There was a lot of cross-promotion and valuable relationships established. Spinlock asked us to wear their belt packs and they told folks about our SUP lessons. I’m looking forward to next year.” And the camaraderie continued into the evening. Latitude 38’s TGIF Party was filled to capacity on Friday night and Cruising Outpost’s Cruisers Party was a big hit, raising money for the Educational Tall Ships Project in Sausalito, CA.

Hundreds of visitors participated in over 50 seminars on a broad range of subjects from troubleshooting boat electrical systems by expert Nigel Calder, to discovering the beautiful anchorages of Mexico, resources for women sailors, how to read the weather, emergency medicine at sea, offshore cruising and more. Hands-on boating clinics featuring both sail and power boats and radio-controlled model yacht racing were favorites.

West Coast Sailing brought the new RS21 keelboat for show goers to try out. Sales Vice President Chris Brown says “The Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show was extra fun this year thanks to four days of sailing with the public on our RS21, the newest boat from RS Sailing.  Marina Bay is a great spot to sail and there’s nothing like reaching across the front of Craneway Pavilion with an asymmetrical spinnaker.”

Boosting the enthusiastic spirit of the boat show, two members of SailGP’s U.S. team, Helmsman Rome Kirby and Grinder Mac Agnese, arrived at the Craneway by boat from San Francisco on opening day and walked the aisles talking with visitors and exhibitors about their upcoming SailGP competition on May 4-5 on San Francisco Bay with this exciting new sailing league.

Environment and safety were a focus of the outdoor activities. A big highlight of the show was the U.S. Coast Guard, who showcased their water rescue helicopter on Sunday, Young Groundwork Richmond environmental stewards offered show visitors free kayak tours around the harbor and the West Contra Costa Sea Scouts (Sea Scout Ship Northland) taught rope knotting.

The Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show thanks its generous sponsors: West Marine – the official shuttle bus and lanyard sponsor; Cruising Outpost and New England Ropes who sponsored the seminars; Helly Hansen for being the official clothing sponsor and Mantus Marine the official shuttle video sponsor. Weems & Plath sponsored the Best In Show Awards, which were presented by Sail America to Silver Seas Yachts, Passage Nautical Enterprises, Oru Kayak, and West Coast Sailing at their annual industry breakfast.

New products creating buzz for new boat techies to solar experts to seasoned sailors

Each year at the Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show thousands of boating enthusiasts anticipate new product debuts from exhibitors from all over the world and this year more innovators than ever will showcase their products Thursday, April 4 through Sunday, April 7 at the Craneway Pavilion and Marina Bay Yacht Harbor in Richmond, CA.

Many exhibitors are taking the lead in sustainability, safety, and efficiency at sea. Here are a few 2019 new and outstanding products available at the show:

  • Cruising Outpost will unveil the SiOnyx Night Vision Camera, which is the world’s first water-resistant Day/Night Camera. Breaking new ground in consumer marine electronics, it gives boaters color night vision that can identify anchorages and monitor nighttime activity on the water as well as capture images under low light. Works well for snow-boarders also. “We discovered the SiOnyx Night Vision Camera at the Miami Boat show in February of 2019,” says Jody Lipkin of Cruising Outpost, “and knew that Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show attendees would find it to be a gem once they had it in their hands and used it. So we are providing a dark room to try out this truly night vision camera.” Cruising Outpost ‘s dark room will allow show attendees to try it out and purchase this state-of-the-art camera. (Craneway Booth M11)
  • Richards Marine Marketing debuts the EFOY COMFORT Mobile Fuel Cell. Manufactured by SFC Energy, it is ideal for boaters and sailors because it is easy to install, is about the size of a toaster oven and charges the battery to full capacity. The fuel cartridge connected to the EFOY runs about 155 hours continuously. Many of the systems they sell are a combined hybrid solar and EFOY. “We will be running an EFOY unit live in our booth at the show,” says Mark Richards of Richards Marine Marketing, Inc. “It will be powering some of our displays through a battery and inverter setup. We want show-goers to come by, talk with us about how it works, and note how it really is so quiet.” Usage goes beyond boats to SUVs or vans and wires directly into the battery and supply power when the engine is not running. A win-win on land and sea. (Craneway Booth H9)
  • Sun Powered Yachts will feature the new SunPower 170W flexible solar panel, one of the highest efficiency flex panels on the market. For boaters this means more power in less space and less impact on the environment. (Craneway BoothD4).
  • Weather Routing Inc. announces new upgrades to their online weather service SeaWeather.net. Highlights of the new technology include a large scale, full-screen map for flat screen display, preset weather parameter display with quick access to preferred parameters, Rogue Wave probability forecasts and Special Severe Weather Alerts. (Demonstrations in Craneway Booth L16)
  • Other debuts include:
  • Boatswain’s Locker’s launch of the world’s first 300hpd diesel outboard, the Cox Powertrain CXO300, offering higher fuel efficiency, savings, greater range and speed. (Craneway Booth A5)
  • Inflatable Sport Boats’ new Inflatable Yacht Dock, which extends a boat’s swim deck into a luxurious 10’ x 6’ swim platform, giving additional space off the side of the sailboat or yacht. Rising 6” out of the water, it provides extra space for lounging, swimming, and relaxing. (Craneway Booth N7)

Early Bird Ticketing Opens as the 2019 Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show® Cruises Back to Richmond CA April 4-7 for Another Outstanding Showcase of Marine Sports

Richmond, CA, February 6, 2019 – Early-bird tickets are now on sale online for the four-day Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show taking place from Thursday, April 4 through Sunday, April 7 at the Craneway Pavilion and Marina Bay Yacht Harbor in Richmond, CA.

Boats and equipment will once again pack the 45,000 sq. ft. historic Craneway building overlooking San Francisco Bay, with an additional 21,000 sq. ft. of outdoor space surrounding the pavilion. Marina Bay Yacht Harbor, accessible via a beautiful waterside walkway or shuttle, is set to enchant audiences with this year’s in-water exhibits and additional on-land exhibitors. Thousands of boating enthusiasts are anticipating the arrival of two new boats, the J/99 and the RS21, as the show continues to attract new exhibitors and attendees from across the nation and around the world.

Sail California, a San Francisco Bay Area company, is excited to debut the new J/99 shorthanded offshore speedster on the west coast at the 2019 Pacific Sail and Power Boat Show. According to J boat designer Alan Johnstone, the J/99 packs a lot of performance and versatility into a manageable boat size and budget. “The J/99 opens up a wide range of sailing possibilities. The versatile sail plan, balanced hull form and efficient cockpit will work as well for shorthanded offshore sailing as for weekend sailing with friends.” With the birth of the J Sports Series in 1975, the design evolved incorporating the best technology and developments into its latest iteration – the 39th design off their drawing boards, the new J/99. “The J/99 design is sure to excite dozens in the Bay Area J/Tribe, as well as the thousands of J boat owners around the world,” adds family partner Stu Johnstone.

West Coast Sailing brings the new RS21 to the Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show’s in-water display at Marina Bay Yacht Harbor.  The financial value and build quality were just as important as speed in the design criteria for the R21. Though the design had club-owned fleets in mind, the same attributes will appeal to individuals as well, according to Chris Brown, Vice President of Sales, for West Coast Sailing. The RS21 has a large open cockpit with comfortable space for four crew, a lifting bulb keel and a carbon composite mast.  The hull features eco-friendly construction thanks to bio-derived resins and recycled core materials. “We’re very picky about the boats we choose to sell and I think everyone will be wowed by the RS21,” says Brown. “It maximizes accessibility, value, and pure sailing enjoyment. We are offering free demo time slots at The Pacific Boat Show, our favorite show on the West Coast.”
